For an educational trip Mr. Scott Warren, French teacher, escorted a group of students and parents to France during Spring Break from April 12-20. The group spent four days in Paris, visiting such points of interest as the Champs-Elysees, Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, and Notre Dame Cathedral (before the fire). In addition, the group spent two days in Avignon in the Provence region and visited the Palais des Papes, Arles Amphitheater and the Pont du Gard, as well as the village of Les Baux-de-Provence. The trip concluded with two days on the French Riviera where the group visited Nice and toured the principality of Monaco.
To explore one of the world’s great ancient civilizations, the land of the Inca, Mrs. Sara Taft escorted a group of her Spanish students to Peru, South America, from April 11-19 during Spring Break. In addition to visiting the sights of the capital city of Lima, the group visited Cuzco, a city in the Andes Mountains. While in Cuzco, the group toured the Sacred Valley region where the Maras Salt Ponds, the Korikancha Temple and the Sacsayhuaman Fortress are located. They also visited the craft markets of the region and competed in an educational scavenger hunt. The group traveled by train to Aguas Calientes to explore the world-famous ancient ruins of Machu Picchu located in the Andes.
Senior Anne Land Welch is the Spotlight Artist for the month of April. She is a student in the Advanced Placement 3D Ceramics class taught by Mrs. Ashley Lareau. Each month a student is chosen for the honor and has his or her artwork displayed along with a brief profile of the student. Anne Land answered the following questions for her profile: What are your favorite subjects? Advanced Placement English Language and Pre-Calculus. Who is your favorite artist? Fellow student Kayla Porter because all of her projects are very neat and smooth. What do you like/dislike about the medium with which you most often work? Slip is very messy, but fun to work with. What are some solutions you used to address a problem while creating one of your works of art? Improvise and adapt to make the project look good even if it breaks. What do you like most about art class? It is my creative outlet and I enjoy making ceramics.
股票解套的六种技巧Sophomore Warren Jolicoeur won Best Overall Presentation and sophomore Miranda Seuell won Second Place Overall in the first S.C. Independent School Assoc. State History Day Competition held in Manning. The SCISA History Day, patterned after the National History Day Program, is designed to enhance reading comprehension as wells as the verbal, analytical, reasoning and research skills of students. The theme for this year’s project was Triumph & Tragedy in History and students addressed the topic’s significance and demonstrated an understanding of its proper historical context. The in-depth research, which included primary and secondary sources, was used for a process paper and annotated bibliography, exhibit, and oral presentation. Miranda and Warren are students in Mr. Tom O’Hare’s Advanced Placement U.S. History class.
